Cleco Power of a Promise Scholarship awarded to three Rapides Parish students

May 9, 2024

Recipients receive scholarship with paid internship

PINEVILLE, La. May 9, 2024 – Through the company’s Power of a Promise Scholarship program, Cleco Power awarded Steele Peart, Royderius Price and Jaden Lee, high school seniors at Rapides, Tioga and Peabody High Schools, respectively.

The Power of a Promise Scholarship, established in 2020, is awarded annually to qualifying high school seniors interested in entering the workforce after graduation and obtaining an Industrial Manufacturing Technology associate degree at Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC).

Recipients must demonstrate high academic performance, financial need, personal accomplishments and community service.

“The scholarship eases the financial burden as tuition is covered by Cleco along with a paid internship at the company’s Brame Energy Center in Lena,” said Samantha Stanley, talent management facilitator at Cleco. “Recipients are also considered for employment once the student earns a degree and completes the requirements of the internship.”

“This scholarship helps my family all around financially and emotionally and can put me in a better position in life and my family’s life,” said Lee. “This scholarship will help me start my career almost immediately after high school and earn enough money to assist my family.”

“This scholarship has undoubtedly changed the course of my future.” said Peart. “I am now able to pursue my dream of working with electronics and machines in a stable career field - a dream that would have never been possible without help from Cleco and their Power of a Promise Scholarship.”

“The Cleco scholarship is really helping me focus on my studies without worrying about the financial side,” said Price. “With this support, I can put all my energy into learning and growing. It's an amazing opportunity that's setting me up for success in the future and I’m grateful!”

Cleco established the Power of a Promise Scholarship to help fund training, curriculum development and scholarships at CLTCC, as well as create educational and career opportunities for underrepresented populations.

“Cleco prides itself on building our local, future workforce by investing in our youth through inclusion and diversity efforts and partnering with our local community technical college,” said Stanley. “Through Power of a Promise, Cleco is available to invest in our community by giving our youth the opportunity to enter the manufacturing industry with the financial burden lifted.”
