Evangeline Power Station Evangeline Power Station, Cleco's first unregulated power plant, is located in St. Landry, La., in Evangeline Parish. It is owned and operated by Cleco Evangeline LLC under the umbrella of Cleco Midstream Resources LLC, a subsidiary of Cleco Corp. Evangeline began commercial operations in July 2000 and evolved from Cleco's Coughlin Power Station, which began operations in 1948. Employees and contractors refurbished two aging generating units at Coughlin to help meet the growing energy needs of customers in Louisiana and renamed the plant Evangeline. Cleco Midstream purchased the plant's assets from Cleco Power LLC in 1999 after approval from state and federal regulators. The 775-megawatt plant is fueled by natural gas and uses combined-cycle technology to produce efficient and reliable power. Evangeline's fuel efficiency and state-of-the-art pollution controls help preserve our natural resources. The plant was recognized as a top combined-cycle plant in a 2002 special report on leading U.S. plants by Power Magazine. Evangeline ranked number three among the top 50 combined-cycle power plants in production costs for 2001.
