Update on Hulabaloo

Cleco's Black Bear

Through monitoring equipment, Hulabaloo was tracked to a thin strip of woods along an oxbow of the Red River during early July. She crossed the oxbow on July 13 and 14. An LSU biologist saw her very close to some beehives kept by the local landowner. The landowner reported some damage to the hives, presumably done by Hulabaloo. An electric fence was erected around the hives on July 24-25.

She returned to the refuge and was located close to her release site on July 25. Since that time, she has used private and Lake Ophelia National Wildlife Refuge lands. The biologist saw three of her cubs in a tree, and it?s possible a fourth was present.
