In houses with forced-air heating and cooling systems, ducts are used to distribute conditioned air throughout the house. In a typical house, however, about 20 to 30 percent of the air that moves through the duct system is lost due to leaks, holes, and poorly connected ducts.
Air that leaks through your home's envelope − the outer walls, windows, doors, and other openings − wastes a lot of energy. A well-sealed envelope can make a real difference on your utility bills.
The attic is usually where you can find some of the largest opportunities to save energy in your home. By adding insulation in your attic, you can maintain the desired temperature throughout your home much better.
LED stands for light emitting diode and it differs from incandescent and fluorescent in several ways. LED lighting is more efficient, versatile, and lasts longer. LED lighting products produce light approximately 90% more efficiently than incandescent light bulbs.
You can lower energy used for water heating by using less hot water in your home. Low-flow aerators reduce the flow of water from the faucet without reducing pressure, saving both water and energy.
Low-flow Shower Heads
You can lower energy used for water heating by using less hot water in your home. Most shower heads have 2.5 gallons per minute flow rates, and modern high efficiency shower heads can reduce that amount by half or more. Newer fixtures maintain pressure and don’t sacrifice water flow for efficiency like earlier models did.
As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. So making smart decisions about your home's heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can have a big effect on your utility bills — and your comfort. If your HVAC equipment is more than 10 years old or not keeping your house comfortable, have it evaluated by a professional HVAC contractor. If it is not performing efficiently or needs upgrading, consider replacing it with a unit that has earned the ENERGY STAR. Direct Rebates are available to Cleco Customers, please consult this document for instructions.
Did you know that your pool pump could be your home’s second largest energy user, adding about $500 every year to your energy bills? Did you know that an ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostat could help you manage your home's heating and cooling costs?
