Cottonwood is located near the Sabine River in East Texas. The plant consists of four highly efficient natural gas-fueled combined-cycle units capable of powering more than one million homes.
Cottonwood began commercial operations in December 2003 and was designed and built with environmentally and operationally advanced technologies available.
The plant’s administration building was developed and certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. The units are 100 percent owned by Cleco Cajun LLC and operated by Cottonwood Energy Company LP through a lease agreement with NRG Energy.
