Big Cajun I is located on 117 acres along the Mississippi in Jarreau, Louisiana.
The site has two steam-turbine units and two simple-cycle combustion turbine units. The steam units began commercial operation in the summer of 1972 and consist of low Nox burners and flue gas recirculating fans installed in 2016 for emission control.
The combustion turbines began commercial operations in 2001, and they utilize water injection for emission control.
The peaking units are owned by Big Cajun Peaking Power LLC, a subsidiary of Cleco Cajun LLC, and the other two units are owned by Louisiana Generation LLC, a subsidiary of Cleco Cajun LLC.
