Cleco celebrates Lineman Appreciation Day with donation to Fallen Linemen Organization

PINEVILLE, La. – April 18, 2019 – Today, in recognition of Lineman Appreciation Day, Cleco donated over $4,000 to the Fallen Linemen Organization (FLO) in Madisonville, La., a group dedicated to memorializing fallen electrical line workers across the country and caring for families who have lost or are impacted by a severe injury of a loved one in the line of duty.

“Cleco line mechanics work tirelessly, and oftentimes in hazardous conditions, to keep the lights on for our customers. At any moment, one incident can change their lives or their family’s lives,” said James Lass, Cleco general manager of distribution operations and emergency management. “It’s comforting to know FLO is ready to support the affected emotionally and financially.”

“We’re grateful to Cleco for their continued support of FLO, line workers and their families,” said Rebekah Boyd-Smith, FLO assistant director. “We started this organization to unite, recognize, support and memorialize fallen line mechanics, and Cleco’s contribution will help us further our mission.”

Cleco’s 163 line mechanics are responsible for keeping the lights on for 290,000 customers and maintaining over 12,000 miles of distribution lines and 1,300 miles of transmission lines across Louisiana. Beyond Louisiana borders, Cleco line crews have received several Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Assistance Awards for their outstanding response in assisting other electric companies with power restoration following severe weather events.
