Cleco: Most Northshore customers to have power by Sunday night

Flooding continues to be an issue.

PINEVILLE, La.,- September 1, 2012 - The work of Cleco's crews and contractors in the St. Tammany Parish area is progressing, and the company expects that all customers who can receive power and who are not impacted by flood waters will have power by the end of the day Sunday. Cleco will continue to monitor the flooded areas to determine a restoration time for those sections.

Areas affected by flood waters include Madisonville, Lacombe and Slidell. While waters are receding, the Pearl River is rising, which could present a challenge to ongoing restoration efforts.

"We are pleased with our restoration so far, but we are not finished. We are committed to restoring power to our remaining customers as efficiently as possible," said James Lass, Cleco's storm manager. "As we continue our restoration, we are monitoring those who are affected by flood waters. Some of our equipment also is a victim of the high water, which is slowing restoration in those areas."

Cleco has restored more than 47,500 customers in the Northshore, which is located across Lake Pontchartrain north of New Orleans. At the height of the storm, 73 percent of Cleco's Northshore customers lost power.

Cleco reminds everyone to be mindful of downed power lines. As residents start their clean up and repairs, power lines could be tangled in the debris. Always assume that power lines are energized and dangerous. Call Cleco at 1-800-622-6537 to report a dangerous situation with electricity.
