Cleco restores power to nearly half of customers impacted by Barry

PINEVILLE, La. – July 14, 2019 (9 p.m.) – Cleco officials report that at the height of Tropical Storm Barry roughly 63,000 customers across the state were without power.  Tonight, the company has restored power to approximately 30,000 of those customers.

“We have had a productive first day of restoration, but unfortunately, we will have customers without power throughout the night,” said James Lass, general manager of distribution operations and emergency management. “Although Barry was a strong tropical storm, it left a path of damage we just could not restore in one day.”

As Cleco restores power in other areas of its service territory, it is collapsing crews to harder hit areas such as Iberia and St. Mary parishes. In addition, as Cleco repairs other circuits, it will perform switching to by-pass breakdowns and redirect the flow of power to customers without power.

“We understand another night without power is not what our customers want to face,” said Lass.  “However, we are doing everything we can to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.  We appreciate our customers’ patience.”

As of 9 p.m., Cleco had approximately 33,000 customers without power.
