What is the Green Option (GO) Cleco™ solar program?
The GO Cleco solar program is an optional solar subscription program that lets customers subscribe to a specific amount of solar capacity from a new, utility-scale solar facility right here in Louisiana without installing or maintaining panels and entering into long-term agreements. The program is designed to provide access to renewable power. In addition to the customer’s regular monthly Cleco bill, customers who enroll will see both a subscription charge and credit on their bill. -
Who is eligible to participate in the GO Cleco solar program?
GO Cleco solar is open to low-income, residential, small business and commercial and industrial Cleco customers who are in good account standing, making solar access available to a wide range of households and businesses. Good standing means the account is active and current (no disconnects in the past 12 months, no past-due balances, no payment extensions and no payment plans). -
What are the benefits of GO Cleco solar?
GO Cleco solar is an easy way for customers to support local renewable energy and access solar energy without any upfront costs or long-term contracts. Customers pay a monthly subscription charge and receive a monthly bill credit based on the solar produced. Customers also earn Renewable Energy Credits for their subscription. -
How does a GO Cleco solar subscription work?
Customers select a solar subscription size based on their past electricity usage. Subscriptions are available in one-kilowatt (kW) increments, and customers can choose an amount that covers up to 100% of their electricity usage from the previous 12 months.
The selected subscription represents a share of the solar capacity needed to generate energy that matches all or portion of the customer's electricity usage. Electricity usage is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh) and measures how much energy a customer uses over a period of time.
Customers will see two additional line items on their monthly bill for the solar program – a subscription charge and a subscription credit.Subscription Charge:
There are two options to choose from.
Fixed-Capacity Option: A monthly charge based on subscribed kW. The charge stays the same each month, making the customer’s bill simple and predictable, much like a typical solar lease or loan payment.- $7.16 per subscribed kW
- $7.02 per subscribed kW (for eligible low-income customers only)
Volumetric Option: A monthly charge based on actual solar energy produced. Because solar production varies by season, the charge may be lower in the winter and higher in the summer — similar to a virtual power purchase agreement for delivered energy.
- $0.03769 per subscribed kWh
Subscription Credit:
The subscription credit is based on the Midcontinent Independent System Operator market settlement rate and will appear as a credit on the customer’s monthly bill. This is a pass-through credit, meaning the value of the solar energy produced is passed directly to customers.
Rates, charges and credits are for illustrative purposes only. Actual amounts are subject to change.
Example:
A customer who uses 12,000 kWh of electricity per year (or about 1,000 kWh per month) could choose a 5-kW solar subscription to match their usage. On a typical day, a 5-kW share of solar capacity may produce about 25 to 35 kWh of energy, depending on the weather and seasonal conditions. Over the course of a year, a 5-kW subscription is expected to produce 12,000 kWh which is roughly equal to the customer's annual electricity use. -
