Ice causing power outages for Cleco

Mar 4, 2011

PINEVILLE, La. – Ice on tree limbs is still causing trouble for Cleco.  As crews are repairing lines additional outages are occurring as limbs continue to break and fall into the electric system.

Cleco has approximately 800 line mechanics, tree trimmers, contractors and support staff working to put power back on to approximately 21,800 customers statewide.  The majority of the outages are concentrated in the central and south central areas of the state.

Cleco is receiving reports of downed power lines and reminds everyone to stay away from power lines that are lying on the ground. Report sagging or downed lines to Cleco at 1-800-622-6537.

Customers using generators should remember to follow manufacturer’s guidelines.  Never plug a generator into an outlet as power could backflow from the home to the lines where crews are working. Always plug appliances into a generator and operate the generator in a well-ventilated area.
