Feb 2, 2017

PINEVILLE, La. – Cleco presented three scholarships of $1,500 each to students who attend South Louisiana Community College’s (SLCC) T.H. Harris Campus (T. H. Harris) in Opelousas.

“We are excited to offer scholarships to students from the communities we serve,” said Anthony Bunting, Cleco’s chief administrative officer.  “When business takes part in education, we help strengthen not only our communities, but also the workforce of the future.”

The recipients, Thomas Hargroder of Opelousas, Joseph Brignac of Mamou and Zackary Deville of Ville Platte, were selected by the SLCC scholarship committee which is comprised of SLCC faculty and staff.

“We are thankful to Cleco for all they do to support our students and college,” said Lana Fontenot, SLCC Foundation executive director.  “Cleco’s commitment to education is truly the best investment you can make into a community.”

T.H. Harris is located in District 40 which is represented by Dustin Miller who was instrumental in working with Cleco to develop the scholarships.

“Thanks to Cleco for their contribution and continued support of our community,” said Louisiana State Rep. Miller. “Education is a pathway to success and providing these scholarships allows our citizens the opportunity to further their education and maximize their wages to care for their families and contribute to our local economy.”

Students receiving Cleco scholarships live in Cleco’s service territory and are enrolled in the Electrical or Industrial Electronics Technology programs.
