Hanging signs on utility poles poses safety hazard

Posting on poles

PINEVILLE, La. – Dec. 21, 2021 – Posting signs on a utility pole may seem harmless, but it can be a significant safety risk to Cleco’s line technicians who may be working on poles.

“People use nails, staples, tacks and other sharp objects to hang signs for political candidates, missing pets, yard sales and more,” said John Melancon, director of corporate safety.  “However, these objects can injure our line mechanics who may be climbing the poles for routine maintenance or power restoration efforts.  The sharp objects can also tear workers’ rubber equipment which helps protect them from electrical shock.”

Cleco puts safety first and asks the public to help protect the company’s workers by not hanging signs of any type on utility poles.
