Cleco secures additional assistance to help with winter storm threat

Company encourages customers to prepare for ice, freezing temperatures

Cleco has secured nearly 400 additional contractor resources to assist with this weekend’s expected winter storm.

“This includes line contractors, tree trimmers and logistical support for damage assessment and fuel procurement,” said Clint Robichaux, director of distribution operations and reliability.

Portions of Cleco’s service area are expected to be impacted by extremely low temperatures, ice and freezing conditions.

Cleco prepares year-round for all types of weather-related events, and employees along with contractors are ready to respond. Additional crews will also be brought in if needed.

The company is encouraging customers to prepare as well.

“As we get closer to the projected timeframe, we’ll know more, but now is a good time for customers to prepare,” said Robichaux. “Make sure you have a plan for staying warm in the event of a power outage and winterize your homes and businesses to keep the heat in when temperatures drop.”

Customers should be aware that ice accumulation causes road conditions to deteriorate, making travel more difficult and potentially slows down the restoration process.

Reasons for power outages during ice:
  • Trees can become heavy and brittle due to the accumulation of ice, and they can break and fall onto lines.
  • Power lines and other equipment can become damaged due to the weight of ice on the system. Assume all downed power lines are energized and do not approach them. Report downed power lines to Cleco’s Customer Call Center at 1-800-622-6537 and 911. While Cleco has technology to notify us when an outage occurs, customers can also report an outage.
