Cleco awards Power of a Promise scholarships to six high school seniors

May 19, 2026

Through the company’s Power of a Promise scholarship program, Cleco Power awarded scholarships to seniors Gregory Gaspard and Dylan Thomas at Tioga High School, Colbey Guillory at Rapides High School, Mekhai Banks at Peabody High School, William LeBlanc at Alexandria Senior High School, and Tristan Bordelon at Bunkie Magnet High School.

The Power of a Promise scholarship, established in 2020, is awarded annually to qualifying high school seniors who are pursuing careers in energy and plan to obtain an Industrial Manufacturing Technology associate degree or Power Line Worker certification at Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC). Recipients must demonstrate high academic performance, financial need, personal accomplishments and community service.

"At Cleco, we're proud to invest in the future of our industry by supporting students in our community through this scholarship program," said Courtney Barron, talent acquisition partner at Cleco. "By covering tuition and offering paid apprenticeships, we're not only easing the financial burden but also providing real-world experience. Our goal is to help students build meaningful careers."

“We are proud to partner with Cleco on the Power of a Promise Scholarship,” said Dr. Heather Poole, chancellor of CLTCC. “This program opens the door for our students to train for high-demand careers in the energy sector and build their futures right here in central Louisiana. It is a model for how partnerships should work — aligned, intentional and focused on impact. Together, we are breaking barriers and building futures.”

Cleco established the Power of a Promise scholarship to help fund training, curriculum development and scholarships at CLTCC, as well as create educational and career opportunities for students in Louisiana.
