Cleco prepared for expected weekend winter storm

Jan 21, 2026

Cleco is prepared for a winter storm that is expected to bring ice and freezing rain to portions of its 24-parish service territory this weekend.

In preparation, Cleco crews will be staged in northern and central Louisiana where the greatest impact is currently projected, ready to respond to weather-related power outages.

“Cleco prepares year-round for all types of weather-related events,” said Clint Robichaux, director of distribution operations and reliability. “In addition to all Cleco resources, we have contractor line mechanics and vegetation specialists on standby, and extra supplies and specialized equipment on hand.”

In addition to our distribution teams, Cleco’s power plant employees are also ready, and the company’s fleet winterization plans have been implemented.

Customers should be aware that ice accumulation causes road conditions to deteriorate, making travel more difficult and potentially slows down the restoration process.

“Winter storms create a unique challenge for our crews, as ice can accumulate on lines and trees, causing limbs to fall, resulting in power outages,” said Robichaux. “Our team will be ready to tackle any outages that may arise.”

Cleco reminds customers to exercise caution during this winter weather event.

If you see a downed power line, report it to Cleco at 1-800-622-6537 and 911. Do not approach or touch a power line, as it may be energized.

Cleco also reminds customers to prepare.

  • Gather supplies in a storm kit that you may need in case of an outage, including water, non-perishable food, a manual can opener, radio, flashlights, batteries, first-aid kit, medicine, and important documents.
  • Charge cellphones, tablets and laptops.
  • Operate portable generators outdoors in well-ventilated areas and plug appliances directly into generators with grounded extension cords. Never plug a generator into a wall out. Ensure that you have a working carbon monoxide detector.
  • If using a space heater, make sure the plug isn’t frayed or torn. Keep heaters away from anything flammable, including paper, clothing and carpet.
