Cleco prepares for possible icy conditions

Feb 22, 2015

PINEVILLE, La. – Weather forecasts call for the possibility of freezing rain in parts of Cleco’s service territory, and the company has taken steps to prepare by securing contract crews and readying Cleco crews to mobilize to areas impacted by the winter storm.

“We are ready to respond if needed,” said Anthony Bunting, vice president of transmission and distribution operations. “If ice accumulates on trees, power outages are possible as falling limbs could damage our electrical system. We have crews ready to respond as quickly as possible if this occurs.”
Cleco reminds everyone to stay away from downed power lines, and call Cleco or 911 to report a dangerous situation with electricity. “Even if a person’s home is without power, the downed lines still could be energized,” said Bunting. “We urge our customers to use caution and to report downed power lines for everyone’s safety.”
To report outages, Cleco customers can use MyAccount, an easy online tool located on Cleco’s website. Cleco customers can report outages by phone at 1.800.622.6537 simply by giving a telephone number or Cleco account number through its voice response system.
